Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Osteopathy, Physiotherapy, and Chiropractic?
While all three professions treat musculoskeletal issues, our osteopathic approach is distinct. We take a holistic view of the body, understanding that pain in one area can be caused by an issue elsewhere. Treatment at The Reform Lab combines hands-on techniques like massage and mobilization with a strong focus on exercise-based rehabilitation to address the root cause and prevent recurrence.
Do I need a referral from a GP to see an osteopath?
No, you do not need a GP referral to see an osteopath in Australia. You can book an appointment with us directly. We are primary healthcare practitioners, fully trained to assess, diagnose, and treat a wide range of conditions.
What should I expect during my first appointment?
Your first appointment is a comprehensive 60-minute session. We begin with a detailed discussion about your pain, medical history, and lifestyle. This is followed by a thorough physical assessment to diagnose the issue. We will then clearly explain our findings, outline a personalised treatment plan, and begin your hands-on treatment and rehab.
How many appointments will I need?
The number of appointments is highly individual and depends on your condition, its severity, and your personal goals. During your initial consultation, we will provide you with a clear diagnosis and a proposed management plan. Our goal is always to empower you with the knowledge and exercises to manage your condition effectively, not to book unnecessary follow-ups.
Can I claim my treatment on private health insurance?
Yes, osteopathic treatment is covered by most major private health funds. The amount you can claim will depend on your level of cover. We have HICAPS facilities at our clinic, which allows for convenient on-the-spot claiming—you’ll only need to pay the gap.

First Time Patient
Your First Appointment: A Clear Path to Recovery
We understand that visiting a new practitioner can be daunting. Our initial consultation is designed to be a comfortable, clear, and comprehensive experience that puts you at ease and sets you on a confident path to recovery.
You can always expect:
- A Detailed Conversation: We’ll start by listening to your story to get a complete understanding of your pain, history, and goals.
- A Thorough Assessment: We use a range of movement and orthopaedic tests to diagnose the root cause of your issue, not just the symptoms.
- A Clear Diagnosis & Plan: You will leave knowing exactly what is wrong and what the step-by-step plan is to fix it. No medical jargon, just clear, practical advice.
- Treatment From Day One: Your session will include hands-on treatment and a personalised exercise plan to begin your recovery immediately.
